Volunteer Opportunities

UTeach Outreach hosts many large-scale volunteer events to support local school districts each semester. Events range from monthly scientific expeditions touring UT to the Science Olympics review to help prepare students for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test.

New volunteer opportunities are posted monthly on this page. These opportunities are flexible and designed to work around your availability. All volunteers must complete a background check. Please email UTeach.Outreach@austin.utexas.edu if you are interested in getting involved!

Field_Trip Volunteer Science_Olympiad
UTeach Outreach volunteers lead children from AISD on field trips through UT to demonstrate how science works in the real world. Students learn about the importance of ecosystems and topics like energy transformation, preservation, ongoing algae research, bio-fuels as energy, and more. These field trips are scheduled on Fridays throughout the semester from 9 am to 1 pm. Each spring in around April, UTeach Outreach hosts Science Olympics in local AISD schools to help students prepare for the fifth grade Science Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test. The Olympics help students build their confidence and increase their interest in science. Science Olympiad is a series of competitions at local, regional, state and national levels, for grades K-12, developed to improve the quality of science education, increase student interest in science, and provide recognition of outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers.
