The UTeach Outreach program expanded its reach in fall 2009 by adding sixth Grade After-School Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) clubs. The vision was to inspire sixth graders to pursue their interest and see STEM careers as viable options. This fall, UTeach Outreach will partner with ten or more middle and elementary school 6th Grades to host after-school clubs in the Austin area. Clubs are hosted weekly with two University of Texas student coaches presenting hands-on Science experiments ranging from experimental design to creating solar cells. In May, club members came to U.T. to compete in a Mini Science Olympiad competition for trophies and bragging rights.

For teachers: If you are interested in having a STEM after school club at your school, please do not hesitate to contact us. Students receive a University of Texas student as their mentor and UTeach Outreach provides all the materials for any labs and activities. You can contact us at UTeach.Outreach@austin.utexas.edu.

For students: Students interested in developing leadership abilities and communication skills should definitely consider being an after school club leader. You will present a new activity every week and spend time with an amazing group of kids. Please contact us at UTeach.Outreach@austin.utexas.edu if you are interested in a leading a club.
