UTeach Outreach Course

Every semester, UT students from all disciplines enroll in the UTeach Outreach course to serve as assistant teachers in the Austin community. The UT students create and teach engaging, hands-on science lessons meant to inspire K-6 grade students to Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate science concepts. These lessons align with the topics currently being taught in the classroom and provide a hands-on aspect to prepare students for the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills examinations, the state’s annual assessment.

Students:

Individuals interested in taking a leadership role in making a difference in the Austin community and motivating younger students to take an active interest in science should enroll in the UTeach Outreach course (CH 207K or CH371K). You and a partner will receive UT course credit and have the opportunity to go into a classroom weekly and teach hands-on lessons. For more information on the course requirements and how to enroll, please see the UTeach Outreach fact sheet.

Teachers:

Each Outreach lesson will complement what you are teaching in classroom and follow the recommended preparation timeline for the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills examinations. A week prior to coming into your class, you will see the lesson plan content. Also, all materials necessary for the the lesson is provided by UTeach Outreach. Teachers interested in having UTeach Outreach students come into their class should send their information and a copy of their class schedule to e-mail UTeach.Outreach@austin.utexas.edu.
